The Montana Trans Quilt Project is a living textile that preserves the history of a tumultuous time for transgender, nonbinary, and Two-Spirit Montanans.
About the Project
Sewn & Seen: The Montana Trans Quilt Project is a statewide community art and history project. This project was started to address the lack of preserved transgender, non-binary, and two-spirit history in Montana, and to build solidarity and community through joy, storytelling, and creation.
Participants, primarily transgender, non-binary, Two-Spirit and queer Montanans, contribute to the project with an 8x8” piece of fabric, and these pieces will then be sewn together, with pieces from other communities, to create a living textile that will travel to as many Prides and events in the state of Montana as possible and will ultimately create a historical artifact that captures a particularly challenging time in our community.
