Report on Counter Extremism (May 2025)

If you experience or witness discrimination, threats, harassment, or violence or see demonstrations by extremist groups, please report them to Catalyst Montana. By tracking these activities, we better understand the escalation of these groups.

As Montanans enjoy the increasingly warm weather, it’s a good time to talk about something besides the sun that tends to come out in the summer months: hate materials. Every summer there is a noticeable increase in racial propaganda and bigoted materials including stickers, flyers, posters, leaflets and graffiti around the state.

These materials are generally distributed on public streets and public spaces where they get the most exposure, but sometimes they are left on doorsteps, in businesses and even tucked into books in public libraries. When you find these materials its important to always discard them, but there are a few other things to remember as well that will help us all fight back against this vile messaging.

Catalyst Montana has created this handy guide for what to do when you find these hateful materials in your community:

We understand that not everyone is carrying around a tool to scrape off fliers and stickers from public spaces. That’s why we have created a handy Catalyst branded pocket scraper that you can put in your purse, wallet, or pocket to use when needed! Were currently getting these ready to hand out at Pride festivities and other events around the state, but if you would like one in the meantime just email mckenzie@catalystmt.org.

Remember, community defense and solidarity is all of our responsibility. Thanks for doing your part to keep our streets welcoming and hate free!
